We had the IEP meeting this morning for Younger Boy.  I have to start by saying I am REALLY DISAPPOINTED in his case team.  His GAL and Service Coordinator have been throwing a fit about being a part of this so it was rescheduled multiple times.  NEITHER OF THEM SHOWED UP.  Not only that, neither of them let anyone know they wouldn't be there.

So it was me, Foster Care Specialist, and the school representatives.  Probably the most appropriate group, but still frustrating.

Younger Boy will have an IEP under the "otherwise health impaired" category.  This will be a behavioral/social skills IEP more so than an education IEP.

Next year he will have a special education teacher he reports to every day.  She will check to make sure he has written all assignments down and that he has the correct books in his book bag.  She will email me all of the assignments each day.  The following morning she will follow-up with me and with him to make sure the work gets turned in.

His IEP goals are as follows:

  1. Given a school setting, Younger Boy will arrive to class on time with all required materials (paper, pencil, homework, textbook) 4 out of 5 opportunities.
  2. Given an assignment notebook/agenda, Younger Boy will complete his assigned work on a daily basis 85% of the time.
  3. Given a classroom setting, Younger  Boy will demonstrate on-task behavior 80% of the time.
Each of his classes will be co-taught with the second teacher being a behavioral specialist.

I am quite hopeful about the IEP.  It is pretty thorough in terms of goals and what is going to happen.  I was also encouraged by the interaction with the staff at his current school.

Praises for a team of educators who are making a difference!!
