Tonight there was a thirty minute discussion on crime rates.
Middle Boy is convinced (and no statistic can tell him otherwise) Omaha has the most violent crimes per capita than any other city in the United States. He talked about how EVERYONE will eventually have their house shot at. He talked about how EVERYONE needs to be prepared for a knife fight with an intruder.
This is survival brain. This is "the world is out to get me" brain.
We have this discussion regularly. We talk about how the majority of people never witness this stuff and how it stinks he did. We talk about how our house is safe and he can trust me to keep him safe. We talk about how his life choices can help determine his level of safety. I wish he believed me, but he doesn't.
Prayers he feels safe with me and in our home.
